Three things make the free Google Docs the best office suite to use with students:

First, it automatically saves, so it is virtually impossible for a student to lose his or her work;

second, it's simple to collaborate and share, which can make its use not only effective but engaging;

third, it's accessible from any computer with an Internet connection.

 

Docs includes spreadsheet, database, presentation, forms, and word processing applications. The focus here is on the word processor, which can be used for anything that any word processor can be used for, including writing research papers or any other kind of essay, creative writing, brainstorming, creating menus and recipes, building posters and advertisements, and really almost anything with text (and pictures and so on)!
